1: Teenage tennis player Coco Gauff won the US Open Saturday, defeating Aryna Sabalenka 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the final. At 19, Gauff is the first American teenager to win the Open since Serena Williams in 1999 at the age of 17. Serbian star Novak Djokovic then won the men's final, marking his 24th solo grand slam victory.

30: According to top-ranked US General Mark Milley, Ukraine has little more than 30 days left of fighting before the weather hinders its counter-offensive. He warned that after that time, cold and wet conditions would make it much harder for Ukrainian troops to maneuver.

2: The Maldives will hold Round two of its presidential election later this month after no candidate obtained more than 50% of the vote on Saturday. Opposition candidate Mohamed Muiz secured 46% of votes while incumbent President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih won 39%, in an election that devolved into a referendum over the influence of India and China on the island nation.

22: Monday marks the 22nd anniversary of the September 11 terror attacks that claimed nearly 3,000 victims in New York City and Washington, DC, and marked the beginning of the “War on Terror.” Just last week, two new victims were identified using DNA evidence.
