There aren’t many things left to happen for the first time in New York City, but on Wednesday night Eric Adams became the first sitting New York mayor to be indicted on federal criminal charges.

Israel appeared to be inching closer to a ground invasion of Lebanon on Wednesday after the army called up reservists while top brass told troops the wave of recent Israeli airstrikes was meant to “clear the ground for your possible entry.”

When Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the sparsely populated United Nations General Assembly Hall on Wednesday, he cast Russia’s war in Ukraine as a threat to Europe and beyond – warning of the rising threat of nuclear disaster, and the potential for the war to spread into Eastern Europe.

In 2011, documentary photographer Giles Duley had what he describes as his “worst day at the office,” a day when he was critically injured by an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan. He lost both of his legs and his left arm, ended up in the hospital for a year, and was operated on 37 times. Duley was told he would never walk again, but 18 months later, he returned to Afghanistan and was back on the job, and he's dedicated his life to documenting and spreading awareness on the long-term impact of war.
