What we know about the London stabbing attack

Carl Bildt, former Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Sweden ...

What's the story behind the stabbing attack in London?

Well, it turns out that it's someone who has been convicted before, for terrorist related crimes and is now suddenly out. And of course, that will lead to some political consequences.

Now with Brexit at least formally done, although not in reality, will the EU give priority to the enlargement with the Balkan countries?

Well, that's going to be a big issue in the next few weeks. The French, of course, vetoed things during the autumn. That was quite a setback for the EU, in the Balkans. Now, the commission has come up with some certain window dressing for the enlargement procedure and some substantive changes, has to be said. And the hope is that the French will reconsider their position and that we in the next two months, I would say, will see a green light for the start of accession negotiations with North Macedonia and Albania. That is, relaunch the Balkan enlargement process for the EU point of view. That would be a good, necessary and strategic move.
